Course Learning Objectives/Outcomes

By the end of the course, the Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, Social Worker or Psychologist will be able to:
-Discuss multiethnic populations.
-Discuss cultural diversity of family.
-Explain the importance of client's cultural background in treatment.
-Discuss positive regard statements regarding cultural diversity.
-Describe how lesbian and gay families help others feel validated.
-Identify a way to understand lesbian and gay family relationships.
-Discuss family support of multiracial children.
-Describe how to work effectively with multiethnic families.
-Name four ways to ethically ask questions about a client's race, ethnicity and sexuality.
-Name a reason why parents feel grief toward a child with special needs.
-Identify two stages of parents' adjustment upon discovery that their child has special needs.
-Name one reason why siblings of children with mental health problems feel resentment.
-Explain the use of sandtray in play therapy.
-Discuss narrative intervention with diverse families. .
